Engine Alarms
IHT recommends Murphy Gages for building an Engine Alarm System
Most engine alarms are set so out of range that damage can be done by the time the alarm goes off. Murphy gages have an adjustable alarm set point which can be set to just below the oil pressure of an idling hot engine for maximum warning that there is an engine oil pressure issue and just above the hot temperature of a properly performing thermostat.
IHT recommends that each Switchgage has its own siren and light. The siren can be switched out so you can concentrate on the problem once the alarm goes off.
A good alarm system is a great investment for a boat, considering the cost of a newly installed Diesel engine, we consider it a must.
