Spats

Spats are airfoils that enclose a wheel for better aerodynamic performance.   This spat was made by James in the 1990's to enclose the rear wheel of the University of Western Ontario's Solar Car Challenge.     The pattern and mold was made in a lab at University of Western Ontario in 24 hours and vacuum bagged by Diamond Aircraft the following day.   This was a last minute job that was fully complete in 3 days.    The Spat weighed 2.2 lbs.
